{"id":7293,"date":"2024-07-16T12:42:40","date_gmt":"2024-07-16T10:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/uncategorized\/hidrogeno-verde-portugal\/"},"modified":"2024-07-17T13:33:36","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T11:33:36","slug":"green-hydrogen-portugal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/innovative\/green-hydrogen-portugal\/","title":{"rendered":"Portugal, a country committed to the development of green hydrogen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Spain\u2019s neighbouring country is developing green hydrogen projects with the aim of moving forward in the decarbonisation of its economy<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Portugal has established policies aimed at the <strong>development of renewable energies<\/strong> in order to boost the energy transition and also to achieve the goals it has set for itself in the <strong>production of green hydrogen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, since 2020, Portugal has been developing a <a href=\"https:\/\/kig.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/EN_H2_ENG.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>National Hydrogen Strategy<\/strong><\/a> with the aim of establishing the conditions for the creation of a hydrogen economy in Portugal and becoming an exporting country.<\/p>\n<p>Portugal plans, among other things, to invest <strong>7 billion euros in<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/sustainable\/green-hydrogen-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>green hydrogen<\/strong><\/a><strong> production projects <\/strong>and for the investment and production aid of up to 900 million euros. One of its 2030 targets is to double the planned capacity of electrolysers from 2.5 GW to 5.5 GW.<\/p>\n<p>Other targets to be achieved by 2030 include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shift from 10% to 15% injection of green hydrogen into natural gas networks.<\/li>\n<li>Increase the amount of green hydrogen in the energy consumption of the industrial sector from 2% to 5%.<\/li>\n<li>Raise the share of green hydrogen in road transport energy consumption from 1% to 5%.<\/li>\n<li>Increase the share of green hydrogen in the energy consumption of domestic maritime transport from 3% to 5%.<\/li>\n<li>Move from 1.5% to 2% green hydrogen in final energy consumption.<\/li>\n<li>Increase the number of hydrogen refuelling stations from 50 to 100.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Similarly, Portugal recently launched the first auction to integrate <strong>renewable gases<\/strong> (hydrogen and biomethane) into the gas network. Their maximum prices were set at \u20ac 127 \/MWh for renewable hydrogen and \u20ac 62 \/MWh for biomethane. Up to 150 GWh\/year of biomethane and 120 GWh\/year of hydrogen will be put out to tender.<\/p>\n<p>The auction has been designed with the aim of facilitating the integration of renewable gases into the gas infrastructure, with the close collaboration of the <strong>National Gas Transmission Network<\/strong> and the <strong>National Gas Distribution Network<\/strong>. This initiative is part of the actions to promote the energy transition in Portugal.<\/p>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN-GB\">A corridor between the Iberian Peninsula and northwest Europe<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Portugal, together with <a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/innovative\/hydrogen-corridor-spain-european-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spain<\/a>, France and Germany, is part of the <strong>H2Med green hydrogen corridor project<\/strong>, which aims to increase Europe\u2019s energy security and speed up the development of hydrogen on the continent. It will connect the Iberian Peninsula with France and Northern Europe and will transport <strong>20% of green hydrogen production<\/strong> by 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The interconnection is expected to <strong>become operational by 2030<\/strong>, and this strategic infrastructure is expected to be able to transmit up to two million tonnes of green hydrogen each year.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The corridor will connect the Iberian Peninsula and transport 20% of green hydrogen production by 2030<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">This project includes the <strong>CelZa section<\/strong>, which will connect the Portuguese municipality of Celorico da Beira with Zamora. Enag\u00e1s on the Spanish side and REN on the Portuguese side have signed an agreement with the aim of jointly developing and financing the corresponding studies for the development of the project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">This corridor is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/proactive\/eu-proyects-of-common-interest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Union<\/a>\u2019s list of <strong>Projects of Common Interest (PCI)<\/strong>, which means that this project can access funding and participate in the next call for European funding (CEF Energy 2024), to cover part of the costs related to the studies necessary to make the investment decision, scheduled for 2026, with a view to the commissioning of the corridor in 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In recent years, Portugal has established policies aimed at the development of renewable energies in order to boost the energy transition and also to achieve the goals it has set for itself in the production of green hydrogen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":7262,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[78,79,283],"class_list":["post-7293","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-innovative","tag-decarbonization","tag-innovation","tag-renewable-hydrogen"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.0 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Portugal, a country committed to the development of green hydrogen - Good New Energy<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Learn about how Portugal will invest 7 billion euros in order to move forward in the decarbonisation of its economy.
