{"id":2281,"date":"2020-11-27T15:10:29","date_gmt":"2020-11-27T14:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/uncategorized\/movilidad-sostenible-el-reto-de-las-entregas-de-ultima-milla\/"},"modified":"2024-09-23T14:46:10","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T12:46:10","slug":"sustainable-mobility-the-challenge-of-last-mile-deliveries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/sustainable\/sustainable-mobility-the-challenge-of-last-mile-deliveries\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable mobility: the challenge of last mile deliveries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Last mile deliveries in urban areas will increase by more than 30% by 2030 in the world\u2019s top 100 cities.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Sustainability and caring for the environment should remain priorities despite increased travel.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Covid-19 has certainly changed the consumption habits of Spanish society.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/iabspain.es\/estudio\/estudio-anual-de-ecommerce-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Annual Study of eCommerce in Spain 2020, presented by IAB<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, certifies that more than 20 million Spaniards between the ages of 16 and 70 years old,<\/span><b> make regular online purchases.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This increase in e-commerce contributes to a considerable increase in last mile deliveries, i.e. those that deliver the order to the end customer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a report presented earlier this year by McKinsey &amp; Company, the World Economic Forum and the World Business Council for Sustainability Development (WBCSD), <\/span><b>last mile deliveries in urban areas will increase by more than 30% by 2030 in the world\u2019s top 100 cities<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this forecast, if the authorities do not act, CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emissions would reach 25 million tonnes a year by 2030. In addition to the increase in carbon emissions, traffic congestion will increase by more than 21%, which is equivalent to adding 11 minutes to each passenger\u2019s daily journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2246 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/shutterstock_1034164804-1024x420.jpg\" alt=\"ultima milla\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/shutterstock_1034164804-1024x420.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/shutterstock_1034164804-300x123.jpg 300w, https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/shutterstock_1034164804-768x315.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><b>New energy solutions for new challenges<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The delivery of goods sold over the Internet presents a logistical challenge for businesses and a real environmental challenge for authorities, who are forced to regulate last mile deliveries within urban areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Cities must find a balance between increased travel and the need to maintain appropriate levels of environmental quality<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this situation, the recommendations are mainly based on more environmentally friendly delivery vehicles, using new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/innovative\/spain-ready-to-create-a-national-project-around-green-hydrogen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">100% clean energy solutions,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as renewable gases &#8211; green hydrogen, biogas\/biomethane. These are 100% clean energies and by using them, we contribute both to the reduction of emissions and to the circular economy, through the use of waste.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The benefits of using natural gas in mobility<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to renewable gases, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/committed\/naturalgas-renewablegases-decarbonisation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">using natural gas in vehicles<\/a>,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> either in its CNG or LNG mode, currently presents major environmental advantages. It both reduces CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emissions by 20 to 25%, and eliminates 100% of the most polluting particles (PM), 90% of nitrogen oxide (NO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">x<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and carbon monoxide, and 100% of sulphur oxides (SO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">x<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0A solution that already encourages progress towards decarbonisation and improved air quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no question that sustainability plays a fundamental role in establishing regulation in this area, because<\/span><b> cities must find a balance between increased travel and the need to
