This small market scale currently reduces its profitability and prevents players who contribute competitively to increasing demand and developing the necessary supply from getting involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this reason, the development of government actions is crucial to implementing a \u201chydrogen economy\u201d. We have already seen how <a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/innovative\/japan-firm-commitment-to-hydrogen-society\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japan,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/innovative\/hydrogen-the-backbone-of-chinas-energy-transition-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/innovative\/france-trusting-development-hydrogen-energy-source\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">France<\/a> have welcomed the challenge. <a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/innovative\/spain-ready-to-create-a-national-project-around-green-hydrogen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spain<\/a> has also approved a \u201cHydrogen Roadmap\u201d and has shown its commitment to creating a national project around this energy vector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Germany was another country that last June declared its intention to lead the global race for technological development to make the production of green hydrogen technologies viable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The key features of the national hydrogen strategy<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After months of discussion and deliberation, the German government has presented a National Hydrogen Strategy. <strong>A plan with an investment project of more than 9 billion euros.<\/strong> There were many reasons in favour of such investment, but the main one was green hydrogen\u2019s huge potential to be the main sustainable energy of the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The German plan outlines the applications for the development of green hydrogen in the key production sectors, and assumes the need for a global European pact.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the German executive, \u201conly hydrogen produced from renewable energy (\u2018green\u2019 hydrogen) is sustainable in the long-term and therefore offers huge potential to support the German and European economy in dealing with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words, <strong>one of the objectives of the German National Hydrogen Strategy (NWS) is to take advantage of the associated economic opportunities<\/strong>. To achieve this, the country is proposing a plan to support European initiatives, as it envisages the development of a hydrogen market in this territory and also at a global level over the next ten years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2150 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Alemania-destinar-9000-millones-euros-hidrogeno-verde-4-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Alemania-destinar-9000-millones-euros-hidrogeno-verde-4-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Alemania-destinar-9000-millones-euros-hidrogeno-verde-4-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Alemania-destinar-9000-millones-euros-hidrogeno-verde-4-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Alemania-destinar-9000-millones-euros-hidrogeno-verde-4-420x252.jpg 420w, https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Alemania-destinar-9000-millones-euros-hidrogeno-verde-4.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are the main objectives?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The German strategy will be based on the following axes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assume a <strong>leadership position<\/strong> on the path<strong> to reducing emissions<\/strong>. Prioritise the development of hydrogen technology as a key element in meeting the targets for decarbonisation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mak<strong>e hydrogen competitive by driving cost reductions<\/strong> with a rapidly growing international market.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop a<strong>n \u201cinternal market\u201d for hydrogen technologies in Germany<\/strong> and pave the way for imports.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Establish hydrogen as an alternative energy carrier<\/strong> to allow the decarbonisation of more complex sectors.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Make hydrogen sustainable<\/strong> as a raw material for industry.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Improve the transmission and distribution infrastructure by using the existing gas infrastructure in Germany,<\/strong> but also by extending the hydrogen networks or building new ones.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establish <strong>international hydrogen markets and cooperation.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recognise <strong>global cooperation<\/strong> as an opportunity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Develop and ensure a quality infrastructure for the production, transmission, storage and use of hydrogen<\/strong>, while building confidence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Constantly <strong>improve the framework conditions<\/strong> and take on board current developments.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The German plan outlines the applications for the development of green hydrogen in the key production sectors, and assumes the need for a global European pact that it will promote from its position of presidency of the European Union, which it holds until the end of 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having received government support, some local corporations have already started to work on the development of <a href=\"https:\/\/goodnewenergy.enagas.es\/en\/innovative\/hydrogen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">green hydrogen<\/a> generation technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the case of<strong> Siemens Smart Infrastructure and WUN H2<\/strong>, who have announced an agreement to build a hydrogen plant in northern Bavaria, which will have the capacity to produce more than 900 tonnes of hydrogen per year in its first phase. When fully expanded, it will be capable of supplying up to 2,000 tonnes. It is scheduled to open at the end of this year and start operating at the end of 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another example is<strong> the Westk\u00fcste 100 project,<\/strong> which will receive government funding to develop a new methodology for producing green hydrogen from offshore wind energy.\u00a0The project will also test methods for the transmission of hydrogen by pipeline and its use in existing and new infrastructure around the city of Heide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Germany was
